Preparation is the key

by Andrew
(Sheffield)

I find that my rhubarb gives good results year after year. I've established it more than once, always with good results. It's also trouble free.
My method is to prepare the ground really well. Make the soil really rich in home made compost - be really generous. Dig a hole deeper than the root needs, fill it with compost, and put the root into that.
If you're transferring the root from another part of the garden, make sure no weeds like couch grass acompany it. You won't be able to get them out later, unless you dig up the root and start again.
I always remove the flower stems as they appear.
