Winter Fertilizing of Rhubarb

I LIKE TO USE THE BOTTOM OF A PLASTIC BARREL (APPROX. 12 INCHES), AND THIS IS MY WINTER COVER.

WHAT I DO IS ACCUMULATE MY KITCHEN SCRAPS (NOT MEAT) AND I THROW THIS UNDER THE CONTAINER.

IT IS THE GREATEST MULCH AND THE RHUBARB JUST LOVES THE FOOD IN THE WINTER.

WHEN SPRING ARRIVES, I HAVE THE SWEETEST RHUBARB IN THE WORLD.

GIVE IT A TRY AND YOU WILL AGREE.

HAPPY RHUBBY TO YOU.

FRED

Elizabeth's reply

I save the compost for the rhubarb as well too Fred. Interesting that it seems to add to the sweetness from the compost over the winter months.

Thanks for the good tip on fertilizing. I knew it needed it, but not having any cow manure or other "good stuff," I was not sure what to do. Now I know! Kappy
